  • “The Learning Consent seminar takes parents through relevant findings from research on young people's sexual experiences in Australia today, and gives those young people a voice in shaping how sex education in schools (and support at home) can be modified to better cater to their needs. Joy's measured and sensitive delivery of information, along with her practical tips and resources, will leave parents feeling more confident to walk this path with their children over the critical high school years.”

  • “Learning Consent brings a refreshing and contemporary approach to sex education, an approach that is long overdue. In her presentation, Dr Townsend was able to site current and relevant research and she introduced the students to a communication-based framework to help navigate the complex issues around sexual consent. Our students found Dr Townsend’s presentation engaging, accessible and inclusive. Dr Townsend seeks to inform and support her audience, steering the students through issues that are often challenging and confronting. As a Year Level coordinator, I could not be happier about the way the morning ran.”

Year Level Coordinator, Melbourne High School

  • “The presentation was amazing! Joy scaffolded content really well, taking participants on a journey towards the end point of why consent education is so important.”

Strengthening Child Safe Organisations Conference, 2022

  • “The Learning Consent training provided a thorough, well researched and informed session that was really clear and digestible. I learnt so much from the session that I can apply in the work we do with young people. I particularly benefited from the real world examples that painted a really clear picture of the experiences of young people. I would recommend this training to anyone working with teenagers."

Joel Hines, Head of Academy, The Man Cave

  • “The entire presentation was fascinating and relevant. The discussion with Learning Consent was profound and insightful. Most importantly, the ideals and outcomes of the proposed program were lucid and logical, offering opportunities to consider how to best implement ideas in the structures of our school while also opening our eyes to the range of possibilities out there.”

    Teacher, Sydney Grammar School

  • “Dr Joy Townsend did a fantastic job of engaging our cohort in teaching the ins and outs of what healthy, pleasurable, respectful and consensual sex looks like. I particularly appreciated how she broke the broad idea of consent into moral principles; instead of focusing solely on what is legal and what is not, she encouraged us to consider the crucial factors of pleasure, communication and responsibility in not only legal, but mutually safe and enjoyable sex.”

  • "The workshop was informative and interactive. It sparked great conversations around consent and drew light to what consent actually is and what it isn't."
